The Wall Street Journal yesterday reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission may be tip-toeing out of the Dark Ages when it comes to companies raising capital on the Internet.

Specifically, the securities regulator is considering allowing firms to use websites to raise up to $100,000 of “crowd financing” with individual investment capped at a $100. If the SEC can adequately address investor protection issues, this could be a w0n-win for businesses, investors, and the overall economy.
